Anyone also recently pick up a 3DS? I have about 6 of them. It just meant that developers had to think outside the box and think up of ways to make the game design better, not just add more polygons. There's just something so cool for me when I see an original Game Boy game that is made so well, yet it was made in the early 90s with all of its limitations. ![]() ![]() It just goes to show that graphics aren't everything. The developers had to be extremely creative and adaptable to make games good on the handhelds. So while on paper, I should have an inferior gaming experience on handhelds, the thing that keeps me going is that I am so impressed with how the games have done so much with so many technical limitations that you don't have with plug-in consoles or PC. I like Tetris Effect on the Xbox, but something about playing the old school Tetris game with its Russian theme song feels so right. A good example is my recent Tetris addiction. The newest ones look colorful and vibrant, but it is just so spartan and pure with the original Red and Blue versions. You just get your music, your controls and the mechanics. You don't get graphical quality with something like Super Mario Land. I like how on these portable games, games are distilled to its purest form. But despite these limitations, handhelds intrigue me. And of course you just have a severe lack of graphical power. And of course the small screen on the handheld makes games harder to see. And of course you have so many more input options on console like joysticks, steering wheels, different controller shapes, etc. ![]() It's just really uncomfortable holding a device for hours that is heavy and not that ergonomic compared to holding an actual controller or using mouse and keyboard. I would say the two biggest cons of portable gaming are comfort and options. It just made me think of handheld gaming in general and the pros and cons of it. ![]() I was playing Top Gear Pocket the other day and it's still just as fun as the modern racing games. In October of 1960, Starr played with Lennon, McCartney, and Harrison on a track backing Hurricanes singer Lu Walters. His drum solos were called "Starr Time." The band grew in popularity, and on a tour in Hamburg, they first met the Beatles, a new group consisting of John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, Stu Sutcliffe and Pete Best. He got his first real drum kit for Christmas in 1957.Ī few years later, he joined a real band with real instruments, Rory Storm and the Hurricanes, and started going by the name Ringo Starr to reflect both the rings he wore and his interest in country and western music. Skiffle was played with household objects instead of musical instruments (which were often out of the financial reach of struggling musicians) and Starkey started playing regularly with a band. He tried a series of different jobs, which were unrewarding professionally, but introduced him to skiffle music via one of his co-workers. By 1955, when he returned from the sanatorium, school wasn’t much of an option anymore as he was too far behind. In 1953 his mother remarried, and his new stepfather encouraged his interest in music. From then on, despite musical talent with other instruments, he was a drummer. One of the ways the staff tried to distract and occupy their patients was to have them form a band, and it was here where young Starkey first discovered percussion, using a wooden mallet to strike the cabinets next to his bed. This put him considerably behind in school, but just as he caught up (with the help of a tutor), he was diagnosed with tuberculosis, and spent the next two years in a sanatorium. His mother worked as a cleaning woman and then a barmaid to support them.Īt age six, Starkey had an appendectomy and then contracted peritonitis, forcing him to live at a local children's hospital for 12 months while he recovered. His parents split up when Starkey was only four, and he never saw much of his father after that. He was an only child, and while his mother doted on him, his father lost interest in family life early on. Ringo Starr was born Richard Starkey on July 7, 1940, in Liverpool, England. Primarily a drummer, Starr also sang and occasionally wrote songs for the group, singing "With a Little Help from My Friends" and writing "Octopus's Garden." The original ten-track 1973 album got even better in 1991 as a 13-track CD reissue, the bonus tracks including the 1971 gold single "It Don't Come Easy" and its B-side, "Early 1970," a telling depiction of Ringo's perspective on the Beatles breakup.Ringo Starr, known for his easygoing personality, rose to fame in the early 1960s as a member of the legendary rock group the Beatles. Ringo's best and most consistent new studio album, Ringo represented both the drummer/singer's most dramatic comeback and his commercial peak. But it wasn't only the guests who made Ringo a success: Ringo advanced his own cause by co-writing two of the album's Top Ten singles, the number one "Photograph" and "Oh My My." The album's biggest hit was a second chart-topper, Ringo's cover of the old Johnny Burnette hit "You're Sixteen." Songs like "Have You Seen My Baby," a Randy Newman song with guitar by Marc Bolan, and Ringo and Vini Poncia's "Devil Woman" were just as good as the hits. On no single track did all four appear, though George Harrison played the guitars on the John Lennon-penned leadoff track "I'm the Greatest," with Lennon playing piano and singing harmony. Ringo was a big-budget pop album produced by Richard Perry and featuring Ringo's former Beatles bandmates as songwriters, singers, and instrumentalists. With Ringo, Ringo Starr finally put his solo career in gear in 1973, after serving notice with back-to-back Top Ten singles in 19 that he had more to offer than his eccentric first two solo albums. ![]() ![]() It also lets you turn any face into a troll, alien, Martian, or other freaks of nature! 10. The high-stakes nature of the launch and the telescope's complexity were remarked upon by the media, scientists, and engineers. The program was plagued with enormous cost overruns and delays a major redesign in 2005 led to the current approach, with construction completed in 2016 at a total cost of US$10 billion. Two concept studies were commissioned in 1999, for a potential launch in 2007 and a US$1 billion budget. Initial designs for the telescope, then named the Next Generation Space Telescope, began in 1996. It is deployed in a solar orbit near the Sun–Earth L 2 Lagrange point, about 1.5 million kilometers (930,000 mi) from Earth, where its five-layer sunshield protects it from warming by the Sun, Earth, and Moon. The telescope must be kept extremely cold, below 50 K (−223 ☌ −370 ☏), such that the infrared light emitted by the telescope itself does not interfere with the collected light. Unlike Hubble, which observes in the near ultraviolet and visible (0.1 to 0.8 μm), and near infrared (0.8–2.5 μm) spectra, Webb observes a lower frequency range, from long-wavelength visible light (red) through mid-infrared (0.6–28.3 μm). This gives Webb a light-collecting area of about 25 square meters, about six times that of Hubble. Webb's primary mirror consists of 18 hexagonal mirror segments made of gold-plated beryllium, which combined create a 6.5-meter-diameter (21 ft) mirror, compared with Hubble's 2.4 m (7 ft 10 in). The first Webb image was released to the public via a press conference on 11 July 2022. National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) led Webb's design and development and partnered with two main agencies: the European Space Agency (ESA) and the Canadian Space Agency (CSA). This enables investigations across many fields of astronomy and cosmology, such as observation of the first stars, the formation of the first galaxies, and detailed atmospheric characterization of potentially habitable exoplanets. As the largest optical telescope in space, it is equipped with high-resolution and high-sensitivity instruments, allowing it to view objects too old, distant, or faint for the Hubble Space Telescope. “COSI will answer questions about the origin of the chemical elements in our own Milky Way galaxy, the very ingredients critical to the formation of Earth itself. The James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) is a space telescope currently conducting infrared astronomy. “For more than 60 years, NASA has provided opportunities for inventive, smaller-scale missions to fill knowledge gaps where we still seek answers,” said Thomas Zurbuchen, associate administrator for NASA’s Science Mission Directorate, in a statement. This will help create a map of chemical elements released by the explosions and where they formed across the Milky Way.
